- MRI/CT: The tumor is large measuring 5.2 cm by 3.1 cm, but it seems to only be on one side. According to these tests it is NOT touching the brain and is NOT in the lymph nodes. It says the eyes are in the right position. The tests say he probably can't smell.
We meet with the oncology nurse practitioner for Dr. Luu and she explained the reports for the MRI and the CT. We think Dr. Luu will review on Monday. On Wednesday we see the eye doctor to see what is happening there.
- Final Biopsy came back: Small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the paranasal sinuses (SNEC) is the new diagnosis. From Google - this is an uncommon tumor. (Before they thought it was SNUC) This tumor usually occurs in the lungs, the extra-pulmonary form accounts for only about 4% of all cases. Primary SNEC of the paranasal sinuses is extremely rare; only about 76 cases have been reported in literature. Unfortunately due to the rarity of this neoplasm, there are no specific recommendations pertaining to the management, treatment options are generally extrapolated from similar tumors of pulmonary origin. While Surgery was used in the past, upfront chemoradiation now seems to be evolving as the treatment of choice.
- Splint: We met with Brace's original surgeon to fix his septum and discover why he was bleeding. He removed the two splints in his nose and the septum is almost completely healed from the surgery. He is already breathing better.
- Pet/CT this morning at 8am. 2-hour radioactive test. Shows fast growing cells. James is going to pick up the report tomorrow after one of the many Glee recitals we have tomorrow. Don't know anything yet.
- Yes we did this all TODAY!
We are going to put Brace's Cancer blog here for our dear family and friends that aren't on Facebook. We will still have that be the main place but we thought this would help those that wanted the updates and prayer requests.
