Appointment Miracles

Monday 10/28 Appointment Miracles
A few more miracles after I posted. Three doctors gave us a first appointment or moved up a later appointment Monday afternoon. I'm telling you - your prayers are helping.

Tuesday 10/29 . Opthamologist / Oncologist / Pet CT

Started the day with Opthamologist that said that Brace's eye pressure was good and at the moment his eyes were not affected by the cancer. She did say when everything is done he might need to fix a cataract. He did prescribe a regiment for sleeping and moisture that should help his eyes.

Then we went to visit Oncologist. He met with Brace, James Swift (Kjarstin's husband) and I for 2.5 hours. He had talked to a lot of our other doctors including the team that did the pathology report. The pathology experts are thinking it is SNEC but he wants to talk to them again. Small Cell Neoendocrine Carcinoma. He ordered two new CT scans and a brain MRI. Thanks to Bob and Shirlee's two trips to Laguna Beach we had the PET report to discuss with him.

Dr. Luu called us to tell us more about imaging results on the PET CT. There were a lot of new concerns, but the most alarming fact was that they think the tumor might be 7-8 cm rather than 5cm. Dr. Luu confirmed that his tumor is inoperable because it is a delicate area and touching so many things. Dr. Luu's primary concern after seeing the PET is that the cancer is moving toward the optic nerve and we need to start chemo ASAP. Brace had already decided he wanted to start chemo after the appointment earlier today.

Wednesday 10/30 . Chemo Class / Dental Xray
In the morning Brace got a dental panoramic Xray thanks to Penrod dental in preparation for his visit with the Dental Oncologist next week. The Dental Oncologist will fit him for a radiology guard and clear him for radiology.

Corey Procuniar was kind enough to take Brace to his first ever chemo class. He took great notes that will hopefully help me keep Brace in line. Good luck on that....

Halloween 10/31 . Chemo 6 hours / Radiologist
We are just finishing our first chemo appointment. That is the picture below. We have chemo today, tomorrow and Saturday and then 18 days rest.

Then in 15 minutes we are off to see the radiologist.

Things we know....

  • He shouldn't feel sick until Sunday or Monday.
  • He will lose his hair in 2 or 3 weeks.
  • They give him lots of anti-nausea meds that should help him a lot.
  • 3 chemo days on and then 18 days off.

Thank you's this week
  • All your texts and emails. Brace loves getting them. It is ok to text him directly.
  • Visit from the Savage's.
  • We have our doctor team - thanks to your recommendations.
  • Meals.
  • Help getting NATS ready for the voice event this Saturday.
  • Penrod dental
  • Beautiful blankets
  • Taking Karen to Leslie's opera in LA
  • Planning a cancer party. Kjarstin, James, Jane and Erik.
  • Delicious fruit
  • Cyndi directing the music as her new calling so I don't have to cry in front of the whole congregation every week.
  • Taking my green bean assignment for the Single's Thanksgiving Dinner Event.
  • Coming to Stake Christmas Choir!
  • Being willing to cancel your lesson so I could go with Brace to chemo or an important appointment.
  • Taking Brace to appointments

Remember no advice. This is to help give updates to those who love Brace AND like knowing.

Tumor is Large / Small Cell not SNEC

October 25 at 5:40 PM MRI/CT: The tumor is large measuring 5.2 cm by 3.1 cm, but it seems to only be on one side. According to these tests it is NOT touching the brain and is NOT in the lymph nodes. It says the eyes are in the right position. The tests say he probably can't smell. :) We meet with the oncology nurse practitioner for Dr. Luu and she explained the reports for the MRI and the CT. We think Dr. Luu will review on Monday. On Wednesday we see the eye doctor to see what is happening the re. Final Biopsy came back: Small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the paranasal sinuses (SNEC) is the new diagnosis. From Google - this is an uncommon tumor. (Before they thought it was SNUC) This tumor usually occurs in the lungs, the extra-pulmonary form accounts for only about 4% of all cases. Primary SNEC of the paranasal sinuses is extremely rare; only about 76 cases have been reported in literature. Unfortunately due to the rarity of this neoplasm, there a...

MRI, no Brain Surgeon, Friday Radiation

Liver MRI : Brace had an uneventful MRI this morning. It takes a while for the write-up and CD. After talking with Dr. Carroll the other day I'm not that worried about it. He then ran to LA to work with a client today. Trust: One of my clients is an estate lawyer and was kind enough to meet with me this morning to setup our family trust. Everything should be set by next week. If you need a referral, she was amazing and gave me great advice. Dana and LouAnn Lake came to visit Brace this afternoon from Arizona. It was a treat to see them. I forgot to take a picture. Brain Surgeon : He was on call at the hospital and had two surgeries. We postponed out appointment to next Wednesday. Fast Radiation: We are coming home now from radiation. It was his fastest yet. He doesn't complain or freak out, which they said is uncommon. Until we did this I had no idea what radiation on your face really meant. We are thrilled with the doctors and the techs her...

A little better day....

So knowing there is such great progress makes our nightmare easier to deal with. Thanks to your prayers, we both were able to sleep. 10 hours for Brace. I was able to exercise which makes everyone happy. :) On my bike I rode 15.5 miles in an hour thanks to watching the VidAngel version of Jake Ryan saving the world in Venezuela. I'm a Zwifter if you know that that is. After riding, radiation called and said they were ready for us at 1:15pm today in the new cancer center. Christine and Jill Clary came this morning at 9:45am and helped me get the house ready for our family party on Monday. Oh how sweet that was..... Upon waking up he ate the new formula through his g-tube, half a carton 250 calories, before taking a shower. After the shower, he threw up stomach acid and formula. Very painful process . :( . He threw up an hour later too. We went to the treatment at 1:15 at Mission. (I think that is treatment #20 of 33 treatments) ....
