Therapy, Talking, Eating and Throwing Up

Short Version:  Brace looks good, but feels very weak.  Recovery is a lot slower than we both had hoped.

Monday: P-Day is always fun because we get to chat or video chat with Penelope with what seems like all day.  9:45am Brace went to physical therapy.  He almost didn't go this morning. We sent lots of messages to both the oncologist and the palliative doctor.  We either have a pain pill problem or there is something wrong with his stomach.  Thank you to the many of you that gave us referrals for GI doctors.  We have two appointments next week. I love his therapist but she is a talker.  I think Brace is like most men and he can only take so much women talk.  Who knows why he married a talker like me? (please don't comment on that)  He calls the gym, an old man's gym and says the therapist is lonely.  He continues to feel nauseous and awful.

Lake Arrowhead is getting close.  Foosball table was installed today for the game room. Both Ryan and Art came to work on the house today.  Working on painting the fireplace black, putting together the beds for the bunkroom, taking down dish tv on the roof, building the child's table, high chair and pack and play crib.  (The idea is that it is good for family reunions)  Our neighbors the Demmons got our packages for us as a favor and saw the high chair and crib and were sure they were in on a secret of James and Kjarstin. They were pretty bummed when they found out Kjarstin was not pregnant. LOL

Tuesday: Our glass guy that installed the stair rail and made a custom kitchen glass table top tried to come to Lake Arrowhead today.  On the way the strong winds broke our table top.   Sad but true.

Dr. Nguyen said we should stay on all the same meds until we meet next.   Brace was tired today and weak but NO throwing up!  Hurray!

At night Brace and I went for our Stake temple interviews.

Wednesday: No Therapy - Brace was excited.

Thursday: Physical therapy again.  Lots of talking.  No throwing up!  The slider glass people came to replace the rollers and the handles at Lake Arrowhead.  I went to the temple for the first time in months.  "Peace beyond comparing."

Friday: Speech therapist appointment today.  A woman that gave us swallowing exercises.  Just between you and me, he's not that convinced that doing exercises will help him. He is eating real food once a day.  It takes him a long time but he can do it!

Saturday: I went to Arrowhead without Brace to get the Hot Tub cover replacement and get Art to help me hang pictures.  While I was gone, Brace went to El Pollo Loco to get his favorite chicken and potatoes.  He still has four formulas a day through his tube.  I left about 5:30pm and raced down the mountain to make it to Stake Conference  at 7:15pm.  Brace was there with mask and gloves.  He didn't feel very good at night and made it for 45 minutes.

Sunday: He felt so much better in the morning.  We like mornings.  I sang in the choir at 8:15am and he showed up for the meeting at 10am.  Most people didn't know who the bald guy was with the black mask.  Then when I sat by him at the end of the meeting, they suddenly knew it was Brace.

Monday: A month ago Marantec, Brace's company that he works for, asked him to attend the Salt Lake International Door Association.  This will be his first week back at work.  Luckily the flight didn't make him sick and he was took three formulas by his tube before we left for the airport.  (1500 calories). He wore his mask and gloves at the airport to stay healthy.  When we checked in the hotel we walked 2 blocks to PF Changs and he was able to have one or two ribs and quite a few lettuce wraps.  (a lot of food for him) The lettuce was very fresh and wet so it worked marvelously and slid right down his throat.  The most miraculous thing is that while we were walking to the restaurant we came across ten guys walking back from Settebello's (the Moffitt's favorite place) and it was his team from work.   It was fun to meet everyone.   Off to bed....   I've got all his meds and formula set up in the room.

Thank you's

Tumor is Large / Small Cell not SNEC

October 25 at 5:40 PM MRI/CT: The tumor is large measuring 5.2 cm by 3.1 cm, but it seems to only be on one side. According to these tests it is NOT touching the brain and is NOT in the lymph nodes. It says the eyes are in the right position. The tests say he probably can't smell. :) We meet with the oncology nurse practitioner for Dr. Luu and she explained the reports for the MRI and the CT. We think Dr. Luu will review on Monday. On Wednesday we see the eye doctor to see what is happening the re. Final Biopsy came back: Small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the paranasal sinuses (SNEC) is the new diagnosis. From Google - this is an uncommon tumor. (Before they thought it was SNUC) This tumor usually occurs in the lungs, the extra-pulmonary form accounts for only about 4% of all cases. Primary SNEC of the paranasal sinuses is extremely rare; only about 76 cases have been reported in literature. Unfortunately due to the rarity of this neoplasm, there a...

MRI, no Brain Surgeon, Friday Radiation

Liver MRI : Brace had an uneventful MRI this morning. It takes a while for the write-up and CD. After talking with Dr. Carroll the other day I'm not that worried about it. He then ran to LA to work with a client today. Trust: One of my clients is an estate lawyer and was kind enough to meet with me this morning to setup our family trust. Everything should be set by next week. If you need a referral, she was amazing and gave me great advice. Dana and LouAnn Lake came to visit Brace this afternoon from Arizona. It was a treat to see them. I forgot to take a picture. Brain Surgeon : He was on call at the hospital and had two surgeries. We postponed out appointment to next Wednesday. Fast Radiation: We are coming home now from radiation. It was his fastest yet. He doesn't complain or freak out, which they said is uncommon. Until we did this I had no idea what radiation on your face really meant. We are thrilled with the doctors and the techs her...

A little better day....

So knowing there is such great progress makes our nightmare easier to deal with. Thanks to your prayers, we both were able to sleep. 10 hours for Brace. I was able to exercise which makes everyone happy. :) On my bike I rode 15.5 miles in an hour thanks to watching the VidAngel version of Jake Ryan saving the world in Venezuela. I'm a Zwifter if you know that that is. After riding, radiation called and said they were ready for us at 1:15pm today in the new cancer center. Christine and Jill Clary came this morning at 9:45am and helped me get the house ready for our family party on Monday. Oh how sweet that was..... Upon waking up he ate the new formula through his g-tube, half a carton 250 calories, before taking a shower. After the shower, he threw up stomach acid and formula. Very painful process . :( . He threw up an hour later too. We went to the treatment at 1:15 at Mission. (I think that is treatment #20 of 33 treatments) ....
